October 2021 - Arch in Teal Grid and Stairs in Dip Dye
Welcome to the first ever candle club month!!! This month I tried out two ideas I've been playing around with for a while.
Teal Grid: I've been experimenting with grid prints for a while and I think it looks best with the arch (when I do it correctly). I used a linoleum carving tool (I cut my hand open with one of these when I was in middle school) and essentially the same method as my strawberry print candles (which I will probably bring back in some form here eventually). Once I carve my lines, I fill in the grooves with contrasting wax. The contrasting wax has to be mostly cooled so that it's pliable enough to push into the grooves (and stay there). Then I buff it smooth and there you have it.
Dip Dye: I do this in two pours. First, just a tiny one into a corner of the mold. I move it around slightly to get the splash effect and then lay it flat and let it harden almost completely (if you're doing two separate pours with any candles, they'll adhere better if the first layer is still a bit warm). I then do the second pour all the way to the top. This has to be done around 170-ish degrees in order to adhere well without melting the first layer. Slightly tricky but honestly the most difficult part about this is getting a pretty pour at the very beginning. I like this effect a lot and have been experimenting with different variations of it so there will probably be similar candles in the future.
